When did you start surfing? I started surfing when I was 14 back on the East coast. I bought my first board for $25.00, it was 8' long and had a purple bottom.
Why did you start surfing? I started surfing because I was a water rat and it was the next logical progression from the hard rubber rafts I was already standing up on.
Shortboard or longboard? My original 8' longboard lasted about 2 weeks and from there I went to a 5'8 and I've been shortboarding ever since, currently on a 6'8.
Where is your favorite place to surf? Outside of San Diego its got to be Trestles or even the breaks north of Cabo near the town Todos Santos. But at home, my all time favorite place to surf is where ever the surf ladies are surf'in. No kidding, even crumbly waves are a blast with the sisters.
Who is you favorite shaper? My current favorite shaper is Tony Staples, I have 2 of his boards in my quiver.
What's your favorite aspect about SDSL? My favorite aspect about SDSL is the "Sin Chi-Chi" camaraderie we have as women surfers, lots of respect for each other, no bad vibes, fun and love all the way around. We care.
Has anyone influenced your surfing? I think the neighborhood guys I used to surf with as a teenager probably influenced me more than anyone. No hassle over me being a "girl" out there stealing their waves, we all had fun. I learned a lot from them.
Where have you traveled to surf? I've traveled to North Shore Hawaii with the Surf Ladies and many spots around Mexico. Also, growing up on the East coast I surfed Hatteras alot.
Have you surfed competitively? If so, what kind of results? Yes, I surfed competitively when I was in my early 20's for the Eastern Surfing Assoc. where I was women's triple A champ for two years.
How does surfing affect you? Surfing affects me in all the best ways possible: I feel like I'm 15 again, I could stay in the water for hours and hours and never get tired, can't wait to get up in the morning and get out there again, its passion, inspiration and love all wrapped up in one.
If you were to tell a newbie some advice, what would it be? Surf with the "aloha" attitude and you'll always enjoy the experience.
What's the weirdest thing you've ever seen or experienced while surfing? Some guy at Scripps surfing with a Padres Baseball Batting helmet on. He took off on a wave and I yelled "Batter Up!"
